Arsenal eye 31 goal winger

Borussia Dortmund forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan is edging closer towards a move to the Premier League and it's looking increasingly likely his destination will be Manchester United. Arsenal are keen to add creativity and goals from wide areas after miserable seasons for Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and it was believed Wenger would follow up his capture of Granit Xhaka with another raid on the Bundesliga.

Arsène Wenger is still a huge believer in the potential of Theo Walcott and possibly sees the purchase of a new winger as necessary in helping Walcott develop into a centre-forward after the former Southampton-trainee's form spiralled downwards in late November when injuries forced him back into a wide position.

With Mkhitaryan off the cards, Russian newspaper Izvestia are reporting that Arsenal's recruitment machine has turned its attention to Dutch international Quincy Promes who plays for Spartak Moscow.

The talented 24-year-old found the net 18 times from wide for Spartak last season and has 31 goals in 58 games since his £11m from FC Twente. In what seems like a similar twist, the Gunners face competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the quest for Promes' signature. The Dutchman has expressed his desire to move to one of Europe's big leagues and having refused to sign a contract extension his Russian employers are looking to sell quickly whilst they can recoup some money. It is rumoured he could cost as little as £11.6m — a relative steal in today's market and surely the value for money Wenger famously looks for.

Alvaro Morata is tipped to be on the manager's radar and with Real Madrid activating his buy-back clause the theory that they would do so to sell on to Arsenal for a profit is gaining traction. If Vardy chooses to stay at Leicester then Wenger will surely move quickly to secure other targets to avoid another Higuain-Suarez mess. The Arsenal manager has claimed he will sign a maximum of three players. One down...
