Forgive me for not writing a novella about Friday’s game. The whole evening had a feeling of ‘let’s get the job done and go home’ about it. It felt really weird to be there on a Friday night too, another erosion of the tradition and history of the FA Cup. It’s a competition that I’ve always loved, there’s something special about it, but over the years it’s become less and less fashionable.

Match Review: Arsenal 2 Fulham 0 - Premier League 18.01.14

It’s often said, rightly, that games like these are what win you titles. With no disrespect to Fulham, one of the few clubs I don’t have something against, these are the sort of games that we expect to win comfortably and often do. The reason we’re top of the league is because we’ve rarely missed a beat when playing the teams below the top six. Even the trickier teams like Southampton, Stoke and Newcastle have been beaten. Our only blips against teams we really should have beaten were on the opening day against Villa and West Brom away. The defeats to United and City weren’t unexpected, whilst draws at home to Everton and Chelsea are not to be sniffed at. A two-nil win at home to Fulham is exactly the type of result that has built us such a solid foundation for our title challenge.

Match Review: Aston Villa 1 Arsenal 2 - Premier League 13.01.14

Different competition, same result. The Gunners restored their slender lead at the top of the Premier League with a fairly comfortable win over Aston Villa. Despite a nervy 15 minutes at the end, we ran out comfortable winners and it was a vital win too, after the other 6 of the top 7 teams won over the weekend. Playing on Monday meant the pressure was all on us, but once again, the team rose to the challenge.
