End of season awards
With the league season all but over, the time for everyone and their dog to submit their slightly meaningless but often entertaining end of season awards has rolled around, so here goes:
Player of the Season
3. Wojcech Szczesny
He has been an absolute rock between the sticks, producing match winning (or match saving) moments in games against Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Marseille, Tottenham (h), the list goes on… He did have a dodgy patch, as all keepers tend to, around the middle of the season with his performance at White Hart lane particularly troubling but overall, has certainly contributed to us having a relatively successful season, let it be known, we would not have been top of the league for 128 days without him in the form he was.
2. Per Mertesacker
Our captain in all but name on and off the pitch, he was absolutely robbed of a place in the PFA team of the year, even disregarding the fact he might’ve scored the most important goal of our last nine years at Wembley, he has been unbelievable in organising the defence and helping getting the best out of Gibbs and Sagna whilst on a game by game basis producing match saving tackles of his own.
1. Aaron Ramsey
Despite missing half of the season, he should unquestioningly be the runaway candidate for Arsenals’ player of the season. He has been nothing but world class, sublime, outstanding, unbelievable, there aren’t enough superlatives. Goals, assists, creating chances, defensive work - there is nothing he hasn’t executed this season in a world class manner. The fact he’s done it after all the unnecessary flack he was given last season (and no, I’m not going to pretend I wasn’t guilty as well) just makes it all the more remarkable.
