Sagna's Long-term Replacement? Hector Bellerin

Arsenal’s right-back position has been covered really well recently with Sagna and Jenkinson being the ones who are available for selection. There will be a problem with the right-back position if Sagna desides to leave in the summer without any compensation as his contract expires in June. Jenkinson isn’t highly rated by many of our fans but I love him and I expect a lot from him in the future. Although, there is another promising youngster who is more than ready to step up in the first team and that’s Hector Bellerin. The young Spaniard joined Arsenal in 2011 alongside his fellow teammate Jon Toral from Barcelona. Hector Bellerin also plays for the Spanish U19 National Team.

After his impressive performances in his first season at Arsenal with the U18s, Hector continued to develop apace during his second season at the club. Hector established himself as the club's first-choice right-back at U21 level last season, was Arsenal's outstanding performer in the run to the semi-finals of the NextGen Series and made the bench for the first-team's Capital One Cup ties against Coventry City and Reading. Blessed with the ability to drive forward, Hector's attacking capabilities have never been in doubt, that was evidenced by stunning goals for the second-string against Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he also demonstrated a marked improvement defensively last season, something which will bode well for his future development. Hector signed his first professional contract with Arsenal in 2012. Bellerin made his Arsenal debut against West Bromich Albion in the League Cup as he got in the game from the bench and played till the end as Arsenal won on penalties and passed that round sucessfully.

The pacy right-back, who enjoys making regular forward runs, spent much of his youth career as a winger before undergoing the successful transition to defence. His attack-minded instincts remain a significant asset. Due to him being a winger previously before joining Arsenal, he needs to improve defensively but overall he's one of the brightest prospects Arsenal has in their Academy. He's currently on loan at Watford but has fallen down the picking order after Watford appointing the new manager which resolved with Zola resigning. Before Zola left, Bellerin was a regular starter for Watford and was loved by the Watford fans after his outstanding performances. Also, on his loan at Watford he has received the Man Of The Match award. His attacking skills were shown with his brilliant run and assist away against Leeds in the Championship.

No matter what the outcome of the Sagna situation will be, it's fully expected from Bellerin to step it up into the first team and he'll definitely be one of the best right-backs once he improves defensively. He can also play as a wing-back but with him being transformed into a right-back, it's more than likely that he'll be playing as the natural full-back in the future for Arsenal. He's one of those youngsters who are rated highly by Wenger and that are expected to travel with the squad for the pre-season matches in the summer as it's the World Cup year alongside Akpom, Hayden, Zelalem, Olsson and Ajayi.

I rate him highly and I would love to see him play for Arsenal's first team more next season. He's one of the players that in my opinion have the biggest chance to make it here from this current generation. He has brilliant skills and knows how the get pass the opposition's defenders really easy. His crossing and tackling are great part of his game. Once he fulfills his potential, without any doubts he'll become one of the greatest right backs we've ever seen. Remember this name as he's going to become one of the best full-backs to have ever played at Arsenal.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

Here's a video of Bellerin's performances from his previous two seasons at Arsenal.
