3 Players Arsenal Should Target in the Summer

arsenal gossip transfer news

There may still be a long way to go in the season but it is not too early to start planning for the 2017-18 campaign. It's unlikely we'll get close to Chelsea and could even fail to finish in the top four of the Premier League. We've got some great players like Mesut Özil, Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla, but that is not enough to challenge for the Premier League title or go far in the Champions League. Arsenal have not been the champions since 2004, and the way things are going we'll be incredibly lucky if we only have to wait a year or two to end that drought!

Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs with a worldwide fanbase. Despite their odds of winning the Premier League title this season rated as very high by 888sport, many top players will find the move to the red half of North London appealing. London is a great city to live in, the Emirates Stadium is modern, the club’s footballing philosophy is attractive and the club have the ability to pay good wages.

The only thing that is missing at Arsenal to progress as a club and challenge for the major domestic and European honours is some top quality players they can rely on week in week out to produce the goods. Here are just three top-class footballers that Wenger, or the new manager’s side need to make moves for in the summer transfer window:

Gonzalo Higuain (Juventus)

Gonzalo Higuain is one of the best strikers on the planet and is a genuinely world-class footballer. The Argentina international is scoring regularly for Juventus this season, both in Serie A and in the Champions League. The 29-year-old scored 107 goals in 190 La Liga matches for Real Madrid and 71 goals in 104 Serie A appearances for Napoli. It would be hard for Arsenal to convince Juventus to part company with Higuain in the summer transfer window, but the Gunners should be willing to make an irresistible offer. Signing Higuain would make Arsenal genuine Premier League title contenders next season.

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

Marco Reus is one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe and is another world-class footballer that Arsenal should target in the summer. The 27-year-old, who can also operate as a forward, scores goals and creates chances. Dortmund are a big club in their own right, but Arsenal could appeal to the Germany international. After all, playing in the Premier League would help Reus showcase his quality to millions around the world.

Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Romelu Lukaku is 23 years of age, and signing the Everton striker would be a long-term investment for Arsenal. The former Chelsea man knows the Premier League inside out, and he would not need any time to adapt to playing for the Gunners. The Belgium international striker recently hinted at his desire to play in the Champions League, and Arsenal should try to convince the former Anderlecht star to move to the Emirates in the summer. Everton are at least a few years away from breaking into the top four, and keeping hold of Lukaku could be difficult for the Toffees.

Signing Higuain, Reus and Lukaku all in the same transfer window may not be possible for Arsenal, but the Gunners should try to recruit at least two of them. Higuain is at the peak of his career and Reus is about to head into his best years, so the quality of Wenger’s squad would be massively enhanced if the duo moved to the Emirates in the summer.
