Arsenal To Sign Three Players And Announce New Contracts?
After a 2-2 draw with Southampton and Manchester City dispatching of Tottnum with some ease, Arsenal have relinquished their place at the top of the Premier League. Arsenal and City have swapped placed with Arsenal moving into second one point behind Man City.
For the entirety of January most Gooners have been praying for Arsenal to make a signing, especially with the February Arsenal has ahead of them, and according to latest media reports it seems their prayers will be answered.
Arsène Wenger gave a hint after the Southampton of his intentions, saying to journalists "I hope to have something for you by Friday". Reports have hit the media that Draxler has been given the go-ahead to start training again by renowned German doctor, Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, and there is a willingness from all parties, Draxler, Schalke and Arsenal, to get the deal done before 11pm on Friday.
Various Fleet Street outfits are reporting that Arsenal may include goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski in the deal and that Draxler may not be the only signing. The Mirror reported a few weeks ago that Arsenal want to turn Draxler into "RVP Mark II" by converting him into a striker. This may be Wenger's long-term plan for the player should he land his target but Draxler's versatility in playing wide and in midfield may come in handy with Arsenal's creative midfielders in Wilshere, Ramsey and Rosicky struggling for fitness and with variable return dates.
Arsenal are also reported to be bolstering the squad ahead of a tough rough-in with the loan signings of Cristian Tello, who is expected to replace the injured Theo Walcott in the squad as he can also play wide and through the middle, and Juventus striker, Mirko Vucinic, to provide competition and support to Olivier Giroud.
If Arsenal manages to pull off these deals before 11pm it will prove to be a real sign of intent by Arsenal as they chase the league title, having led the race for so long, and will add much needed depth to a stretched squad ahead of a treacherous and busy February.
These deals could provide the supporters and the players with a much needed boost ahead of Sunday's game against Crystal Palace, where Arsenal can regain top spot. With a Mourinho led Chelsea and Aguero-less Manchester City lining up against each other on Monday night there is a chance that Arsenal's place at the top, should they beat Palace, will not just be a 24 hour thing.
Should these signings be completed it is also widely expected that Arsenal will further boost morale by announcing the extension of the contracts of Wenger, Mertesacker, Rosicky and Sagna. Should Sagna not sign an extension then Arsenal may look to sign a pre-contract agreement with Feyenoord full-back, Daryl Janmaat, as his long-term replacement - and the Dutch star is reported to be keen on signing for Arsenal.
Fingers crossed the papers have it right on all fronts.
