Well, we go into another post-Christmas Boxing Day torpor, although this one may have more to do with our latest result than it does with any late-night revelries. It’s not so much the actual result we suffered at Anfield as the manner of it. Against the run of play, we carried a lead late into stoppage-time only to concede the equaliser in horrifically familiar fashion. We therefore stagger into Friday’s clash feeling as if Santa left us naught but a lump of coal—but it’s our own naughtiness that’s at fault.

Match Preview: Liverpool vs. Arsenal– Premier League 21.12.2014

Recent memory will prompt us to return us to the scene of a regrettable 5-1 drubbing in which Liverpool somehow found a way to score four goals inside of 20 minutes, and that might be enough to cause any Gooner to assume the fetal position. However, it would be Liverpool who came up empty-handed courtesy of our earlier 2-1 win in the FA Cup’s fifth round, paving the way for us to hoist a trophy while Liverpool would slip up on its way to yet another trophyless season.

After a dispiriting defeat to Stoke, one in which we very nearly shipped four goals in the first half alone, we’ve rebounded in fine form, scoring five goals in 60 minutes, starting with Cazorla’s 67^th minute penalty against Stoke and culminating with Ramsey’s 28^th minute wonder-strike against Galatasaray. It may even feel as if we’re turning a corner—but so too have Newcastle.
