Out For The Season - Has Ox Kicked His Last Ball For Arsenal?
Arsenal have suffered a fresh injury blow as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is feared to be facing another lengthy spell after sustaining a double injury in the match against Barcelona on Tuesday night.
In a heavy collision with Mascherano, which ironically came from the Arsenal man showing too much of the ball to the Barcelona defender in what looked to be a promising attack, Ox suffered ligament damage in his knee and ankle.
Whilst it is true that Alex has been desperately searching for form and ultimately being a bit of a liability as he failed to do so his presence will be missed as Arsenal chase the league and cup double. There were signs that Oxlade-Chamberlain was starting to find his feet in recent games after following the example of Joel Campbell and sticking to the basics but now, thanks to a rather too predictable heavy touch, he will miss the crucial run in and is also likely to be ruled out of the Euros too - a personal blow to the England midfielder as injury forced him to miss the 2014 World Cup.
It also places a question mark over his Arsenal future. The former Southampton player is the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs and with just two years left on his contract and not much in the way of contribution to warrant the salary increase his camp are rumoured to be seeking he could find himself available for transfer. Arsenal are said to be preparing a new contract offer but if terms can't be agreed quickly the manager may want to cash in whilst his stock is high enough to get a decent return.
