Gunners ready to spend £50m on three midfielders

Arsenal are close to securing the signature of Swiss midfielder, Granit Xhaka, for a reported fee of £35m. The two clubs have a deal in principle and according to Artan Muhaxhiri — an Albanian TV reporter and close friend of the Mönchengladbach man — Granit has left the Swiss set up to travel to London to finalise his move to Arsenal. This follows on from North Rhine-Westphalian side stating on their website a deal had been agreed with Arsenal for Granit Xhaka.
To add fuel to the fire, Xhaka has liked a photo on Instagram of an Arsenal fan wearing this season's shirt with 'Xhaka 34' on the back to welcome Xhaka. We shouldn't read anything in to Xhaka potentially taking Coquelin's shirt number as with plenty of squad numbers up for grabs it's likely we'll see a few changes this summer. The player is keen to sew his future up before the start of the Euros and Arsenal will be keen to generate some goodwill with an early statement of intent and dispel any notions that Wenger will dither in this transfer window.
This is a signing to get excited about as it could make a huge difference to Arsenal's title hopes next season. Arsenal are already in the mix as one of the favourites according to the tipsters on Betadvisor, and this could be the signing that takes them over the line for the first time since 2004.
Having waved goodbye to Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky there is room for more midfield signings at Arsenal — especially with The Gunners suffering an annual injury crisis — and Arsenal may sign two more midfielders after Xhaka signs. Relegated Newcastle may be under some pressure to sell players and Arsenal may look to take advantage of this for a cut price move for Moussa Sissoko.
The France international has been linked heavily with a move to the Emirates in the past and reports suggest Wenger could sign Sissoko for less than £10m. Sissoko joined Newcastle three years ago for £1.5m so £10m would still be a healthy return but in the current transfer climate £10m would be an absolute steal for Wenger and Arsenal, especially considering Sissoko is proven in the Premier League.
Sissoko is versatile and can play across midfield which would appeal to Wenger who will want to ensure he has cover in all positions having watched Arsenal's title challenge falter due to injuries once again. Whether Sissoko will suit Arsenal is a completely different story but he could perhaps fulfil the support role Ramsey takes up when he plays wide and the France international's strong crossing could be useful when playing with his countryman Giroud.
Arsenal are also locked in a battle with Liverpool for the signature of Fulham starlet, Ryan Sessegnon. The England U-16s captain is a highly rated left winger and will cost up to £5m. Fulham are reluctant to sell so the Gunners may loan him straight back to the West London side.
Should Arsenal spend £50m on three midfielders, two of whom are unlikely to be regulars, it begs the question how much will they spend this summer with a striker a key target too.
