Wenger looks to Italy for defensive signings

With Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny both the wrong side of thirty and Calum Chambers and Gabriel Paulista not living up to expectations the need for another centre-back at Arsenal is very real. Arsène Wenger has recognised this and the best sportsbook review suggests he is looking to raid Serie A for a defender. Italian football has long been respected for its ability to develop and mould top class defenders so is the perfect picking ground.

Juventus starlet Daniele Rugani, 21, is interesting the Arsenal manager but he won't be cheap with Old Lady wanting £25m. Another defender on Arsène's shopping list is Kostas Manolas of Roma. Wenger tried to sign the Greek defender in 2014 when he left Olympiakos but he opted for a life in Rome. The talented 25 year old is the perfect mix of Mertesacker and Koscielny and has the physical attributes to acclimatise to England quickly.

Arsenal have needed a striker for quite a few years but considering the dearth of viable, proven targets (Higuain is looking unlikely) the Gunners could do worse than shoring up their defence. Improvements have been made in defence in recent years and Arsenal are not bereft of goals so plugging even the slightest leaks could elevate Arsenal to champions.
