Özil set to reopen contract talks
Three contract talks loom large over Arsenal presently, with Arsenal's waiting for new on the futures of Özil, Alexis and Wenger with baited breath. The majority of the fans are united in their desire to see Mesut Özil remain at the club and will be having mixed feelings of hope and dread at the news the Germany international will hold talks over his future "soon".
Losing Mesut in the summer has been a real threat with Arsenal's poor domestic form coinciding with the penultimate year of Arsenal's two best players' contracts - both due to expire in summer 2018. However, Özil has spoken to German newspaper Die Welt to say he is comfortable in London and will reopen contract talks soon with a decision following swiftly after.
"My dream is to win the Champions League. Why not with Arsenal? Of course, we just have a difficult time and are not satisfied with sixth place. I am convinced, however, that we will catch up again soon. Let's see what the future holds."
Arsenal's chief creator missed their ignominious defeat to West Brom last week with a back problem but was deemed fit enough for a call up to the German squad and featured as a second-half substitute in Germany's 4-1 World Cup qualifying win against Azerbaijan on Sunday.
The Gunners face Manchester City this weekend and it is hoped Özil will be fit to play. Contract news or no contract news, Wenger's side could do with a fully fit and in form Mesut Özil to help them finish the season strongly.
