Another failed transfer window for the Gunners?

Transfer deadline day is today and by 11pm, our squad could be radically overhauled. I’m perversely excited by the chaos of it all, but I’ve also been here enough times to know that Arsenal never make a good job of this type of situation. The situation itself is already pretty terrible, so making a good fist of it is nigh on impossible. Since Sunday, the only business that had occurred before Ox joined Liverpool today is that Kieran Gibbs was sold to West Brom for £7m. That’s about £5m less than Arsenal have been after all summer. Meanwhile Sp*rs managed to sell Kevin Wimmer to Stoke for £18m.

We still have Perez and Debuchy on our books and our third choice Keeper is Matt Macey, who has, to my knowledge, played precisely zero first team games. Before the deadline passes, I expect Perez and Alexis to follow Chamberlain out of the door and with them a few seats might be going up on Football Ticket Pad as fans contemplate what sort of team will line up this season. Possibly we might get one player in. We still may lose Mustafi and at the moment, we have no back-up at right back and a paucity of talent in centre midfield and on the wing. I also expect Wenger to ditch the 3-4-3 that he’s somehow ruined by the time we play our next game. This is not information that I have from insiders or anything, simply what I think is most likely to happen.

The fact is that Arsenal have needed a big change for a long time. Cracks have been papered over and but the way this season has started makes me feel like the end for this Arsenal hierarchy is on its way. Wenger, as much as I have revered and defended him in the past, should no longer be in charge of Arsenal. He shouldn’t have signed a new contract and should have left on a high with the FA Cup win.

The board has summarily failed in its duties this summer and in many previous summers. They are incapable of doing their jobs it seems and changes need to be made. This is not reactionary to this one defeat, this has been a long time coming. Transfer window after transfer window we have failed to address our problems and the contract situation that we find ourselves in now is nothing short of embarrassing.

Arsenal are linked with various players including Sterling, Lemar and Evans but will we get the business done or will it be another failed window for the Gunners? Whether the changes we need will happen any time soon, I don’t know, but I’d advise you all buckle up, because this season for sure is going to be a long and difficult ride.
