Last seasons excellent run of form coincided with the emergence of a certain Francis Coquelin. The much-travelled Gaul evidenced every asset that fans and indeed the team - were crying out for. Prior to his surprise inclusion we had looked similar to previous seasons' efforts - pleasing on the eye, capable of running rings around any team, but brittle in the heat of battle.
At the start of last season, I released an article regarding Jack Wilshere and the level of performance he must show in order to cement his future at Arsenal. Aaron Ramsey was revelling in deserved adulation after a sensational season capped by scoring the drought-ending goal. To match Ramsey's status as first choice XI player Jack needed to start the season fit and in form.
Despite continuing to be a regular starter Ramsey couldn't quite replicate the previous seasons' displays and tallies and the tail end of the season saw him farmed out on the right of midfield - something he wasn't exactly fanatical about.
Last season seems like an age ago. The domestic football calendar ended with our glorious triumph and utter humiliation of our opponents at Wembley, completely at odds with how we started our campaign, which was mired in mediocrity.
